Project

The regeneration of the industrial belt of St. Petersburg was one of the largest competitions ever held in Russia. Covering 40 km² of largely underused and outdated industrial land, the challenge was to transform this grey belt into a new urban condition that is attractive for contemporary living, working and leisure. MLA+ created a strategic framework for the transformation, combining large-scale interventions with smaller pilot projects. This framework builds on the historic layout of the city, integrates green and blue networks, and introduces new mobility systems. It also emphasizes gradual transformation by providing flexible guidelines for developers and the municipality. The project was developed in close dialogue with local stakeholders and experts.
