The (+) we are adding to Schiedam is an (x) this time

S’MAAK is the name of a new “icon for Schiedam that will clearly refer to the DNA of the city.” Together with developer Blauwhoed, Stats Architecten and Bouwgroep Moonen we have been selected to deliver the mixed-use building that will give a taste of Schiedam in forming a new entry to the city center right opposite the train station at the river Schie.

The tower that fronts the station square refers to the specific types of windmills that to this very day characterise the city and forms a powerful welcome sign for visitors. The city block with its jagged roof line houses a mix of apartments, many with different types of outdoor spaces and retail and offices.

In the process of crafting the design, the team worked closely with local stakeholders and the authorities to deliver a concept that meets all the requirements and finds city wide support right from the start. Together with them, we will further refine the scheme in the coming months until the end of the year.
