Project

The site of the project was a great challenge that triggered unexpected solutions: A small location in one of the central quarters of Perm, surrounded by wooden buildings triggered a different approach to architecture in the local context.
The quarter will be transformed and redeveloped in the near future, and wooden buildings eventually will be replaced by new ones. We believe that nevertheless historical continuity has cultural and esthetical value that we can build upon today.

The historical context of the quarter became the inspiration for the architectural expression of the new. The massing was formed as two independent buildings, placed on the front line of the street, maintaining the rhythm of the historical facades and scale of the neighborhood. To enhance the independent look of the two blocks and to reduce the overall scale, each block has its own color scheme: one brown and the other in sand color shades.

With their extensive detailing the buildings remind us of the wooden carvings that characterize the local wooden architecture vernacular.
An inviting entrance lobby was created to unite the two blocks and to define an entrance plaza and an inner garden.
