Project

MLA+ together with Umbaustadt and Fugmann Janotta was selected as one of four teams to design a Masterplan for a city-extension in Berlin’s northeastern district of Pankow.
On the 150ha site, the brief asked for a proposal for a new neighbourhood with approximately 6.000 dwelling units, combined with the necessary social and commercial infrastructure, and a large park. Additionally an area of 40 ha of industrial and large scale commercial use had to be integrated.
In our design we propose a new dense urban centre right at the edge of the city. The commercial areas are located further east towards the existing allotment gardens. The new neighbourhood is thereby exposed to the open landscape giving a maximum of dwellings a direct relation to the historically grown greenery.
